Roof of Mount Sinai Hospital, NYC [Tuesday Afternoon Fandom-Time]

Once the evening's visiting hours had ended, Bobby'd found himself wandering up to the roof of the hospital. He needed some time to just think, clear his head, but he couldn't quite bring himself to actually leave the hospital, not just yet.

He needed to be here, in case- well. In case every second counted. Sleep definitely wasn't happening, and dawn was only a few hours away now anyway.

So he sat, legs dangling over the edge of the building, and just... waited.

It had taken half a day of bitching people out at Portalocity before she was able to book something on short notice (and bye bye, a huge chunk of Eric's money, sigh), but Sookie couldn't just not move when she got a voicemail like that.

After wrangling her way through portals from Shreveport to Bobby's version of New York, a bag slung over her back filled with clothes and her textbooks, Sookie then took on the arduous task of figuring out which hospital had Bobby's dad. Looking through this many people for Bobby's brain signature at a distance gave her a near-instant headache, and after calling four different hospitals before finding the one that sounded promising, she finally turned up in the lobby of Mount Sinai.

Only to be told that visiting hours were over. Of course.

Now, though, she could feel through the bond that she was closer. She closed her eyes, pushing away the pulsing ache in her temples, and listened for Bobby.

And after about ten minutes of learning that elevators interfered with her telepathy and stairs were really tiring, Sookie crept out onto the roof of the hospital. And there he was.

She didn't know whether to yell or cry at him right now. Little bit of both. She was probably going to go with yelling.

"Robert Louis Drake, if you're actually dropping you out of school I'm going to turn into a human cattle prod to get you back to Fandom to finish senior year."

Yep. Yelling.

During those few, terrifying seconds, Sookie had run over to the edge of the building in horror, and then sighing in relief when he came back up.

"You're gonna give me a heart attack at eighteen," she said, glaring as she crossed a hand over her chest. "Or at least turn my hair gray. What are you doing?"

"I did not travel through six portals, four subways, one really bad-smelling taxi, and two cramped elevators to get a smartass answer, Bobby," Sookie said sharply. "What are you doing, droppin' out of school? Are you stupid? Are you just going to throw away everything like an idiot?"

"Your dad is sick, and you're gonna stay here for that," Sookie agreed, because she...didn't really get the rest of it. "But you can't just throw away your entire education. You can't ruin your future 'cause tragedy smacked you in the middle of senior year."

And now she wasn't yelling -- she was just staring.

"...what happened? Warren just said -- I thought he'd gotten sick."

"He's your father," Sookie breathed, actually smiling a little sadly. "Even if you've clashed, he loves you, and...maybe he finally got a wakeup call."

"That your father protected you? Yeah, I can," Sookie said quietly, because -- well, Gran had done similar for her. "How's he doing?"

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm staying," she said immediately. "Do you want me to call anyone?"

"How's your mom doing?" she asked, rubbing his back and tilting her head to press a kiss to his temple. "Anything I can do on that end? 'Cause I got time off from work indefinitely."

"I brought my books," she replied, gesturing to her backpack. "And I can email my professors. I'm sure they'll understand. This is more important."

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"I try," she said, leaning in to kiss him. "They gonna let you sit with your daddy? Want me to make 'em let you?"

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"When was the last time you slept, baby?" she asked, reaching out to smooth his hair. "Because don't forget to do that."

[identity profile] justwantsquiet.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll keep watch with you, okay?" she said quietly. "And I'll stay up and keep watch, 'kay?"

Telepath, after all.
